Actor from The Lord of the Rings and Batman to headline Comic Con Astana

The legendary Gollum, Snoke and Caesar – live in Astana: Andy Serkis has become the first Hollywood star in the lineup of the largest geek culture festival in Central Asia, Comic Con Astana, in 2025.

Легендарный Голлум, Сноук и Цезарь – вживую в Астане: Энди Серкис стал первой голливудской звездой в лайнапе крупнейшего фестиваля гик-культуры Центральной Азии ComicCon Astana в 2025 году.

The organizers of Comic Con Astana have announced the name of the first headliner of the 2025 festival. It is British actor, director and motion capture master Andy Serkis, an artist who has forever changed the perception of digital characters in cinema.

Andy Serkis has gained worldwide fame thanks to his roles as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Caesar in Planet of the Apes, Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars, and Alfred in Batman (2022). In addition, he is known for his role as King Kong in Peter Jackson's remake of the same name, Kino Loy in the Andor series, Ulysses Klaue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - in the films Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther.

He is considered a pioneer of motion capture technology and has received a number of prestigious awards, including a BAFTA and MTV Movie Awards, as well as nominations for an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

His studio The Imaginarium became one of the first in the world to specialize in motion capture technology and the creation of CGI characters.

Let us recall that Comic Con Astana is the largest geek culture festival in Central Asia, uniting cinema, comics, anime, video games, cosplay and fan content. In 2025, the convention will be held from July 9 to 13 at Astana Arena and Barys Arena.

Last year, the festival headliners were Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Doctor Strange, Star Wars) and Percy Hynes White (Wednesday, The Gifted). In previous years, the event featured headliners such as Pilou Asbæk, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker and others.

В прошлом году хэдлайнерами фестиваля стали Мадс Миккельсен («Ганнибал», «Доктор Стрэндж», «Звёздные войны») и Перси Хайнс Уайт («Уэнсдэй», «Одарённые»). В предыдущие годы в мероприятии в качестве хэдлайнеров участвовали Пилу Асбек, Шон Ганн, Майкл Рукер и др.

Comic Con Astana has evolved from a small three-day event at the Congress Center in 2019 to the largest geek forum in Central Asia, which in 2025 will last five days and for the first time will occupy two large venues simultaneously. This allows us to talk not just about growth, but about the full-fledged transformation of the festival into an international platform of a new level.

Comic Con Astana прошёл путь от камерного трёхдневного события в Конгресс-центре в 2019 году до крупнейшего гик-форума Центральной Азии, который в 2025 году продлится уже пять дней и впервые займёт две масштабные площадки одновременно. Это позволяет говорить не просто о росте, а о полноценной трансформации фестиваля в международную платформу нового уровня.

This year's program includes autograph sessions and Q&A with Hollywood stars, exclusive trailers and premieres, exhibitions and presentations of international studios and brands, the largest cosplay competition in the CIS with a prize fund of 15,000,000 tenge.

В программе нынешнего года — автограф-сессии и Q&A с голливудскими звёздами, эксклюзивные трейлеры и премьеры, выставки и презентации международных студий и брендов, крупнейший в СНГ конкурс косплея с призовым фондом 15 000 000 тенге. 

The program is still being formed, there are many big announcements ahead. It is already known that Qewbite, a YouTube star whose videos collect millions of views, will be a special guest. 

Программа ещё формируется, впереди множество громких анонсов. Уже известно, что специальным гостем станет Qewbite — YouTube-звезда, чьи видео собирают миллионы просмотров.

The festival will also be attended by the developers of the comedy-dramaanimated web series Metal Family, Alina Kovaleva and Dmitry Vdovenko.
