Режиссером фильма стал Колм МакКарти, известный широкой публике по таким сериалам как «Шерлок», «Тюдоры» и другие. Само действие кинокартины «Новая Эра Z» происходит в далеком будущем. Война миров не закончилась, планета заражена опасным неизвестным вирусом, зараженные вирусом нападают на здоровых людей, спасение искать негде. Надежда на светлое будущее уже умерла, все выжившие со страхом ждут наступления апокалипсиса и неминуемой гибели для всех. Укушенный человек быстро заражается вирусом, его тело и мозг подвергаются изменениям. После того, как бактерии попадают в кровь, они  начинают уничтожать иммунитете человека, клетки в организме человека подвергаются мутации. Принцип действия вируса никто из ученых не может распознать, поэтому  действие вируса нельзя не только заморозить, но и даже замедлить. Небольшой, но все же шанс спасти планету есть. Главные герой фильма «Новая Эра Z» -  ученые, занятые разработкой препарата, который сможет остановить действие смертоносного вируса. Ученые прячутся в подземном бункере, где они изучают действие болезни. После серий многочисленных экспериментов им все же удается понять первопричину развития заболевания. Ученые взяли образцы биологического материала зараженных вирусом, и проводят на них свои опыты.  В бункере ученые не догадываются о масштабах заражения на земле. Для того, чтобы избежать своей собственной погибели им необходимо поторопится. Ведь экспериментальная вакцина – их последняя надежда. Для того, чтобы вакцина оказала нужное действие ученым необходимо новое поколение зараженных людей, которые смогут доставить лекарство наверх из охраняемого бункера. Главная героиня Мелани на первый взгляд кажется совершенно обычной. Но на самом деле девушка обладает высочайшим IQ, а в ее крови живет смертельный вирус. Мелани вместе с несколькими ровесницами содержится правительством в засекреченном военном бункере. С их помощью ученые стремятся найти вакцину от смертоносного вируса. Но однажды ситуация выходит из под контроля. Фильма «Новая Эра Z» - это новая драма с элементами триллера понравится всем любителям экшенов и зомбо-ужастиков. «Новая Эра Z» является экранизацией книги М.Р. Кери «Дары Пандоры».
