Shanghai, the origin of inspiration

In January 2013, Charles-Joseph de Ligne moved to Shanghai, captivated by the vibrant energy and the frantic neon lights of this international metropolis, he began to explore the play of light and urban colors through his artistic lens. His work draws on the cultural symbols of China, as well as the fundamentals of Western paintings, merging tradition and modernity in a series of monumental photographs.

The work of Charles-Joseph de Ligne is part of this cultural programming approach of the Carrousel du Louvre, an emblematic place in the center of Paris. 22 works under the theme of "Mirror Heart" will be exhibited in the aisles and squares of the center of the Carrousel du Louvre.

The concept of the "Mirror Heart" illustrates the purity of the work, without superfluous artifice which encourages a deep introspection. Each photograph thus becomes a window open on the soul of the artist and the spectator. The works push back the traditional chromatic limits, exploring cultural symbols such as the vertical scroll, the Yin and Yang, the cosmic circle as well as the origins of nature. Each of his large-format photographs captures the monumentality of structures and colors in pure states, while integrating strong emotions to create a unique and powerful visual language.
