It certainly does not have the aura of Giverny, the property of the impressionist painter Claude Monet, but this 15th century estate with an English-style park and ornamental factories: Orangerie (exhibition hall), Chalet Suisse (restaurant), la ferme ornée (exhibition hall), kiosk, cooler, the cottage in the 19th century by the chef Pierre-Frédéric Borrel largely compares. The Caillebotte family bought it in 1860 as a summer residence. The father of the painter Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894) continued to embellish the house and added a vegetable garden and the chapel for his son Alfred. This property will play an essential role for the painter finding there multiple subjects (Gardeners, The vegetable garden or L'Yerres, the rain, Perrissoires sur L'Yerres, The orange trees,...) in addition to his other favorite subjects: city activity, new urban landscapes. When the painter's parents died, the family decided to part with the property, which was eventually acquired in 1973 by the city of Yerres. After a long rehabilitation, the house has been open to the public since 2017. Its Restoration style perfectly evokes the lifestyle of a wealthy family in the second half of the 19th century. No wonder it is one of the favorite monuments of the French.
