Almaty will host the 1st International Film Festival Almaty Film Festival that will become an annual event of the city

From 15 to 19 September, Almaty will host the 1st International Film Festival Almaty Film Festival organized by the Astana Film Fund on the initiative of Almaty Akimat (Mayor's Office).

The jury of the film festival includes Gulnara Sarsenova (producer of the film Ayka), the French producer Pierre Spengler (Superman, Three Musketeers, Underground), the director, producer, German actress Nastassja Kinski (winner of the Golden Globe Award 1981, the repeated nominee of the Cesar Award) and the French producer Marc Ruscart. Also, the film festival will be attended by the South Korean director Kim Ki Duk (winner of the Golden Lion of the Venice Film Festival), the American director Robert Minkoff (The Lion King), the producer Alexei Petrukhin and others.

"The film festival is always an image event for the city. We want to attract international projects to the film industry of Kazakhstan and increase the recognition of Almaty in the world. Now I am sure that the Almaty Film Festival will be an annual event and will help private Kazakhstani cinema to produce world-class films."

Among the guests of the film festival are Kazakhstan actors Samal Yesslyamova, Assel Sagatova, Karlygash Mukhamedzhanova, Assel Sadvakassova, Kuralai Anarbekova, Dinara Baktybayeva, Berik Aitzhanov, Sanzhar Madi, Assylkhan Tolepov, Maksim Akbarov, Farkhad Abdraimov, Aidarkhan Adilbayev, Askar Uzabayev, Alisher Utev, Daniyar Ibragimov, Serik Abishev, Aidar Batalov, Kanagat Mustafin, Nurtas Adambai, Askar Bisembin and Nurlan Koyanbayev.

In the main competition 10 films, claiming prizes in the following categories: Grand Prix, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Special Jury Prize, will take part.

The audience will see the films: Drawing Life (India / USA), Omotenashi (Japan / Taiwan), Gentle Indifference Of The World (Kazakhstan / France), Horizon (Georgia / Sweden),
Crystal Swan (Belarus, Germany / USA / Russia), Averno (Bolivia / Uruguay), Reports On Sarah and Saleem (Palestine, Netherlands / Germany / Mexico), Volcano (Ukraine / Germany), Sofia (France / Germany), And Breathe Normally (Iceland / Belgium / Sweden).

In the out-of-competition program 21 films will be presented in the following sections: Cultural and Natural Heritage, Tourism and Sport (with UNESCO) - 6 films, the program City In Motion - 5 films, Family Cinema - 5 films, Special Show - 5 films.

As part of the film festival, there will be a business forum where the prospects for the development of domestic cinema, the export of Kazakhstan films to other countries, co-production issues, the influence of cinema on the development of the tourism potential of Almaty and others will be discussed.

Ernar Kurmashev, General Producer of Almaty Film Festival:

"At the moment, in Kazakhstan, 20-25 films are shot per year. The annual market of private Kazakhstan film production is about 8-10 million dollars. An average of 200-250 thousand dollars is spent on the production of one Kazakhstan film, and box offices are on an average of 400-500 thousand dollars. Within the film festival we organized the project pitching which will help the winner to get investments from the Almaty Film Festival to implement the project."

At the closing ceremony of the film festival the national award in the field of cinematography Tulpar (the award has been given since 2016) will be awarded.
Tulpar is awarded on the basis of secret voting by members of the Academy in the following nominations: Best Film, Best Directing, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design and Best Music.

Also, the organizers of the film festival report that a special structure will be created under the Akimat of the city - Almaty film commission that will help Kazakhstan and foreign filmmakers to shoot in the city and the region.

The films of the festival program will be shown at the Cinemax (Dostyk Plaza) and Lumiera Cinema (TsUM). Business events of the festival will be in the festival center at the Mercure Almaty City Center. The opening ceremony of Almaty Film Festival will take place at the Palace of the Republic.

The film Ayka, directed by Sergei Dvortsevoy, will open the film festival. Work on the film lasted 6 years. The film budget was 2.5 million euros. Kazakhstan actress Samal Yesslyamova won the Cannes Film Festival Prize (2018) for the best female role in the film Ayka and became the first actress in the CIS to receive this prestigious award.
The premiere of the film Businessmen by Akan Satayev will close the film festival.

В Алматы пройдёт I Международный кинофестиваль Almaty Film Festival, который станет ежегодным событием города.

С 15 по 19 сентября в Алматы пройдет I Международный кинофестиваль Almaty Film Festival, организованный Astana Film Fund по инициативе акимата города Алматы.

В жюри кинофестиваля вошли Гульнара Сарсенова (продюсер фильма "Айка", французский продюсер Пьер Спенглер ("Супермен", "Три Мушкетера", "Андэграунд"), режиссер, продюсер, немецкая актриса Настасья Кински (обладательницей премии "Золотой глобус" 1981 года, неоднократный номинант премии "Cesar"), французский продюсер Марк Рускар. Также кинофестиваль посетят южнокорейский режиссёр Ким Ки Дук (обладатель "Золотого льва" Венецианского кинофестиваля), американский кинорежиссер Роберт Минкофф ("Король Лев"), продюсер Алексей Петрухин и др.

В основном конкурсе примут участие 10 картин, претендующие на призы в следующих номинациях: "Гран-при", "Лучший режиссер", "Лучший актер", "Лучшая актриса", "Специальный приз жюри".

Зрители увидят картины: "Рисуя жизнь" ( Индия/США), " Омотэнаси" ( Япония/Тайвань), "Ласковое безразличие мира" ( Казахстан/Франция), "Горизонт" ( Грузия/Швеция),
"Хрусталь "(Беларусь, /Германия/США/Россия), "Аверно" ( Боливия/Уругвай), "Отчеты о Саре и Салиме "( Палестина, /Нидерланды/Германия/Мексика), "Вулкан( Украина/Германия), "София" ( Франция/Германия), "Дышите нормально" (Исландия/Бельгия/Швеция).

Во внеконкурсной программе будет представлен 21 фильм в следующих секциях : "Культурное и природное наследие, туризм и спорт" (совместно с ЮНЕСКО) – 6 фильмов, программа "City in motion" – 5 фильмов, "Семейное кино"- 5, "Особый показ"-5 фильмов.

В рамках кинофестиваля состоится бизнес-форум, где будут обсуждаться перспективы развития отечественного кино, экспорт казахстанских картин в другие страны, вопросы копродукции, влияние кинематографа на развитие туристического потенциала Алматы и др.

"В настоящий момент, в Казахстане, снимается 20-25 кинокартин в год. Годовой рынок частного казахстанского кинопроизводства составляет примерно 8-10 млн долларов. На производство одного казахстанского фильм тратится в среднем 200-250 тыс. долларов, а бокс-офисы составляют в среднем 400-500 тыс долларов. Мы организовали питчинг проектов, в рамках кинофестиваля, который поможет победителю получить инвестиции на реализацию проекта от Almaty Film Festival ".

На закрытии кинофестиваля будет вручена национальная премия в области кинематографии "Тулпар" (премия вручается с 2016 года).
Премия "Тулпар" присуждается по итогам тайного голосования членов академии в следующих номинациях: "Лучший фильм"；"Лучшая режиссерская работа"；"Лучший сценарий"; "Лучшая мужская роль"； "Лучшая женская роль"；"Лучшая операторская работа"；"Лучшая работа художника-постановщика"；"Лучшая музыка к фильму".

Также организаторы кинофестиваля сообщают, что при акимате города будет создана специальная структура - Almaty film сommission, которая будет помогать казахстанским и зарубежным кинематографистам производить съёмки в городе и области.
Показы фильмов программы фестиваля пройдут в кинотеатрах Cinemax (Dostyk Plaza) и Lumiera Cinema (ЦУМ). Бизнес мероприятия кинофестиваля – фестивальный центр в отеле Mercure Almaty City Center. Церемония открытия Almaty Film Festival состоится во Дворце Республики.
Откроет кинофестиваль фильм "Айка", режиссёра Сергея Дворцевого. Работа над фильмом длилась 6 лет. Бюджет фильма составил 2,5 миллиона евро. Казахстанская актриса Самал Еслямова получила приз Каннского кинофестиваля (2018 г.) за лучшую женскую роль в фильме "Айка" и стала первой актрисой в СНГ, получившей эту престижную премию.
Закроет кинофестиваль премьерный показ фильма "Бизнесмены" Акана Сатаева.
