For the 32nd year in a row, Canon Europe is proud to announce its participation in one of the largest photojournalism festivals, Visa pour l’image. As part of the event, Canon will host a professional week from August 30 to September 4, 2021. The long-term partnership with the festival confirms Canon's commitment to photojournalism and the company's commitment to supporting photographers capturing important moments in history. From grants for video journalists and women photojournalists to the undergraduate program, Canon and Visa pour l’image joint initiatives are designed to encourage aspiring storytellers and storytelling professionals alike to explore our world.

Canon and Visa pour l'image will award a grant to an outstanding female photographer for the 21st time to celebrate her contributions to photojournalism. This year it's Acacia Johnson. She will receive 8,000 euros for a project dedicated to pilots of small aircraft who help rural Alaska (To Know The Earth from Above: The Bush Pilots Connecting Rural Alaska). Currently, only 20 percent of Alaska has roads. Dozens of remote settlements, dominated by indigenous populations, use small airplanes to deliver food, medicine and emergency travel. Acacia will start the project in her hometown of Anchorage. The grant will allow her to tell more about the pilots by their portraits against the background of aircraft and photographs during flights.

Johnson, along with Turkish photographer Sabiha Çimen, who received a grant last year for a Hafiz: Guardians of the Qur'an project, will be exhibiting at the Visa pour l’image festival in 2022.

In recognition of the art of documentary filmmaking, Canon and Visa pour l'image will award a grant to a promising video journalist for the second time. This is Camille Millerand, who wants to make a short documentary. Millerand will receive 8,000 euros for a project called The Invisibles, dedicated to illegal workers in France, who make up an important part of the country's economy. In addition, he will be loaned professional Canon video equipment to work on the project.

Это Камилль Миллеранд (Camille Millerand), который хочет снять короткий документальный фильм. The documentary will be screened at the festival in 2022 - as will the work of the winner of the first (last year) Canon grant for video journalists. A short documentary by Franco-Swiss photographer and filmmaker Michaël Zumstein tells about the organization of the Miss Central African Republic pageant during the war.

In 2021, Canon will offer its fifth undergraduate training program for photographers looking to pursue a career in photography. It will be held for the second time online in Professional Week, September 1-4, and will bring together over 200 aspiring photographers from Europe, the Middle East and Africa. An intensive training program will help them improve their skills and determine their future development with the support of the best professionals in the industry, who will deliver lectures and assess the portfolio of participants. 21 photographers, including Canon Ambassadors Jérôme Sessini, Marco Longari, Muhammed Muheisen, Aïda Muluneh and Magnus Wennman, and other established industry professionals will become mentors and will assess student portfolios. The program will feature photo editors and curators: Fiona Shields from The Guardian, Chiara Bardelli Nonino from Vogue Italia, Whitney Richardson from The New York Times, Jay Davis from Getty , Mohamed Somji of Gulf Photo Plus and Lars Lindemann of GEO.

В 2021 году Canon в пятый раз проведет в рамках студенческой программы обучение тех, кто хочет строить карьеру фотографа. Она во второй раз пройдет в онлайн-формате на профессиональной неделе, с 1 по 4 сентября, и в ней примут участие более 200 начинающих фотографов из стран Европы, Ближнего Востока и Африки. Beginning September 1, world-renowned professionals will deliver a series of informative and inspiring lectures online for anyone who registers on the Canon website to attend. This year, guests from Magnum, Politiken and Reuters will share their thoughts on the ethics and moral responsibility of photographers, what agencies and photo editors look for when looking for a photographer, and the power of multimedia and a socially inclusive approach.

С 1 сентября всемирно известные профессионалы прочитают в онлайн-формате ряд познавательных и вдохновляющих лекций, на которых смогут присутствовать все желающие, зарегистрировавшиеся на сайте Canon. В этом году гости из Magnum, Politiken и Reuters поделятся своими мыслями об этике и моральной ответственности фотографов, расскажут, на что агентства и фоторедакторы обращают внимание при поиске фотографа, а также о силе мультимедиа и социально ориентированном подходе. 

Within the framework of the festival in Perpignan, exhibitions will be held. 2020 Pierre and Alexandra Boulat Award winner and Canon Ambassador Jérôme Gence will present his Telework exhibition on the topic of remote work. His photos taken in 2019 will show digital nomads moving to Bali. These young people have escaped the bustle of the city and work remotely, enjoying the sun, palm trees and low prices. Canon Ambassador Gabriele Galimberti will present photographs from The Ameriguns project, which he worked on in the United States. These are home portraits of Americans with their weapons in their hands.
